Designed for Weis Iron as part of a display for the Design Centre in Arthur Street, New Farm. A great idea, perhaps ahead of its time, for a collective of suppliers to show their works. I made many contacts that helped to start my business by working from this space for a while.
An economic downturn in 1990 left me & many designers jobless. Initially I found work with Steve Weis designing wrought iron pieces for his clients. However I had been thinking about starting S+G & Steve was interested. When I wanted to go it alone he said “F*** off then and do it”. Great advice, thanks
Many of the original items are still used throughout the Royal Pines complex. The people I met both through this project and at DBI have been very influential in the success of my business.
These are also 20 years old and are still in use. They were made and detailed very well, a simple design, that still looks right. Why replace them? this is true of a lot of my designs for public spaces that have defied fashion trends.
Built locally in Victorian Ash, these seats and tables are still in use nearly 20 years old…. Not bad!!!
